“As of August 14, 2007 the name IYENGAR associated with YOGA has been registered as a trademark and is protected in the United States in connection with teaching Iyengar yoga.Only Certified Iyengar Yoga teachers are permitted to use Iyengar Yoga to describe their yoga programs or classes.
Teachers who have passed the first level of assessment may identify themselves as Introductory I teachers in the Iyengar method.
Non-certified teachers may not use or advertise the term Iyengar Yoga or similar words that could imply that they are certified to teach Iyengar yoga in classes, teacher training, workshops, and the like.
They may indicate that they have taken classes with Iyengar Yoga teachers; in teaching they may acknowledge that a certain way of teaching comes from the Iyengar method.”
Suzie was awarded her Introductory Certificate in 1985 and a Junior Intermediate III Iyengar yoga certificate in 1997. As director of Postures in Naples, Florida she promotes the methodology as set forth by the Iyengars and has offered IYNAUS Approved Teacher Training since 2002 and assisted more than 13 students in receiving their Introductory Certification and more than 5 to receive their Intermediate Junior I certificate and 2 to receive their Intermediate Junior II certificates. Since 2001, Suzie has participated as a National Assessor.
In 1993, she spearheaded the formation of the regional association along with Kathleen Pringle and Linda Di Carlo: IYASE.
She served as the National Iyengar Yoga Association Membership Chair for more than four years; chaired and co-chaired the IYNAUS Store at the National conventions in 2001, 2004 and 2016 in Boca Raton, FL. In 2010, she was Store co-chair of the Convention in Portland. In May, 2012, she served as the Chairperson for Curriculum at the Maitri Southeast Conference in Washington, D.C.
In 2008, Suzie completed a four-year term on the National Assessment committee. She continues to be among only 56 Assessors in the United States and has been assessing for over 12 years. In May, 2009 she completed an invitational post as the National Ethics Chairperson and Board liaison with the National Certification Coordinator. From 2009-2011 she served as the IYNAUS Liaison to the Yoga Alliance.
Suzie studies regularly with her teachers, Sri B.K.S., Dr. Geeta and Prashant Iyengar, Joan White; Manouso Manos, Patricia Walden, Arun H.S., Stephanie Quirk, Lois Steinberg and other Senior Iyengar teachers.
